Plumbing, Water and Sewer:
Avoid sewer backugs
Sewers are designed io dispose of very speciiic things. Using
a toilet or kitchen drain for disposal of non-biodegradable
products will often result in home or county sanitary sewer
system blockages. The drain lines that connect your home to
the county sanitary sewer in the street are only big enough
to carry water, toilet paper and human waste. Never flush
anything down the toilet other than human waste and toilet
papen
DO NOT FLUSH INTO A TOILET OR SINK:
Fats, oils or grease (For more information see the
“Preventing Sewage Backups” brochure and the “Can
the Grease” m on Fairfax County’s website.)
o Medicines or other pharmaceuticals, including liquids
(See the “How to Dispose of Unwanted Medicines”
fb@ on Fairfax County’s website)
Baby wipes or disinfectant wipes
Rags, cloth or clothing
Sanitary napkins, tampons, condoms or any non-
organic material
Q-tips®
Napkins or paper towels
Contact lenses
Plastic of any kind
Food items of any kind
Hair
Diapers (cloth, disposable or
Facial tissues
Dental floss
Try to limit or eliminate your garbage disposal use.
WHAT CAN BE FLUSHED?
Only toilet paper and human waste
Mailboxes:
Please do not place ads or flyers on the
mailboxes with tape or glue. Do not use indelible ink or
paint to write on these boxes. Itis has been reported
that some teenagers blew up tirecrackers into a few of
the mailboxes around the 4th of July weekend. These
mailboxes were paid for out of your homeowner fees
and we would like to keep them looking nice for as long
as we can. These are very expensive to replace and
we do not want to have to raise fees to buy new ones.
Please teach your children about how vandalism
affects our neighborhood and homeowner fees.
